Baker After School Center
for 3-5 1/2 year olds
Join us for Bedtime Storytime on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30-7:15 pm beginning July 9th. Registration is required and will be taken the week before each of the following programs: July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6 and 13. Children may wear their pajamas.
Several teens are volunteering to team up with young readers in the Summer Reading Program on Tuesdays 10:30-11:15 am and 6:30-7:15 pm. Children ages 4-8 years old may sign up to read with a teen weekly to earn reading credit toward the incentives! Buddy sessions will begin on July 1 and continue on July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5. Children will remain in the library with their buddy for the full 45 minutes. They may bring a book they are currently reading or choose one at the library the day of their reading session. Register for one or more weekly sessions.
Crafts That Float and Boom
Come to the library on Monday, July 14th and Friday, August 1st at 10:30 a.m. for some fun science related crafts. Children ages 6-11 may register for these programs beginning June 30.
Art with Miss Adele
Children ages 6-10 will use various art mediums in an encouraging creative environment under the direction of Adele Karbowski, artist and teacher. Registration begins June 30 for this Friday morning program to be held on July 11 and July 25 for two sessions from 10:30-11:30 and 11:45-12:45 and on August 8 from 10:30-11:30.
Fizz Boom Write!
Are you in third, fourth or fifth grade? Do you have ideas bouncing around inside your head like firecrackers? Do you love to read and write? Join us for four sessions of fun writing activities where you will develop a really cool character and plan an amazing story with the help of Smithfield teacher and author, Christine Depetrillo! Sessions are Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on July 10, 17, 24 and 31. Please bring a notebook, pen or pencil and your imagination. Registration is limited to 20 children and will begin on June 30 for all sessions.
With Miss Babs and Miss Rhonda
Learn how to make your own stomp rocket and fly it! Children ages 8-14 years of age who are signed up for the children or teen program can register for this program full of POP! The program will take place in the front yard of the library on July 10 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Rain date will be July 15 from 3:00-4:30 p.m.
Art and Science Shadow Theatre
Storyteller Clare Vadeboncoeur will explore “light and dark” using both Shadow Theater and traditional storytelling. Through a fun exploration of hand and puppet shadows, children will learn how light interacts with matter. Registration for children ages 4-11 begins on June 30 for this program which will take place on Wednesday, July 16 at 10:30 a.m.
Family Movie Night
Come to the library for fun-filled movies on the big screen on Monday, July 7 and Thursday, July 24. Doors will open at 5:30 with the show beginning at 6:00 p.m. Children ages 6-11 are invited to attend with a parent/caregiver. Free popcorn will be provided! Registration begins June 30.
Ronald's Reading is
Ronald McDonald will offer families with children ages 3-8 a 30 minute show filled with magic, audience participation and surprises! Registration begins July 1 for the show which takes place on Wednesday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m.
Paws to Read!
Does your child need practice in reading skills? Here’s an opportunity to practice this summer with a therapy dog who LOVES to listen to stories. Children ages 6-11 may sign up for one 20 minute session per week. Sessions will be held on Mondays; June 30 and July 14, 21, and 28 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., with registration beginning on June 23 for all sessions.
Magic at the Library
Join in the fun with The Great Baldini on Wednesday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. He will be performing magical tricks that sizzle with science! Registration for this program will begin on July 16.
Did you know that science is all around us? A mad scientist who will visit the library on Monday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. will prove just that. His mission is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children. Ages 4-10 are invited to register for this program beginning July 16.
Children in grades K-5th are invited to the library to hear stories and create a related craft with educators from Smithfield schools. These fun-filled storytimes will take place on Tuesdays, July 8, 15, 22 and 29 and August 12 at 1:00 p.m. Registration begins on June 30.
The O’Conner children, ages seven and nine, will display their Outdoor Fairy Garden. This fun collection includes a fairy land with fairy land with fairies and fairy houses.
