 Biography of Abigail Test

Although Abigail was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, she has been a Rhode Island resident for the last 23 years. At this point, she is more a Rhode Islander than anything else. She moved here in 1979 after graduating from Wheaton College in Norton, MA with a BA in Drama and Literature. Her junior year in college, she realized that what she really wanted to do was to study art at the Rhode Island School of Design. Upon graduating from Wheaton, she moved to Providence with that goal in mind and little else. Two years later, she was accepted at RISD and graduated from there in 1984 with a BFA in Painting. During her senior year at RISD she took a Winter Session Course in Mexico, traveling mostly through the Yucatan Peninsula with other art students. This was a life changing experience for her as it awoke an unquenchable passion for Latin America: the land, the people, and the culture. She has been traveling frequently to Central and South America ever since. It has had a profound affect on her. Much of her work today is heavily influenced by these travel experiences.

Abigail works in a variety of media: watercolor, pastel, oils, charcoal and mixed media. Although her work to date is mostly representational, she is exploring facets of mystical realism in a number of her more recent pieces. She is moving towards a more intuitive approach allowing her more freedom of expression. The work on display at the Greenville Library is a selection of pieces from the past decade.
